Large, unessential furniture was taking over this bedroom. It felt depressing when you walked into the room. We needed to create a balance in the room. We went down to the basement and found awesome lamps to flank the bed. After removing the bookshelf full of clothes and Organizing the closet, we moved the clothes in there! The wing chair was removed—it was much too big for the room.
In terms of color, we felt there was a disconnect. The first major step taken was to remove the existing rug which was replaced by a lighter rug found in the home. This made the room not only feel larger, but gave it a brighter glow. Because the colors fought with the rest of the colors in the room, the poster was taken down. We changed the comforter to add more color. The replacement spread was hidden behind some linens in the linen closet. It’s amazing what you can find in your own home to create an updated look for a room. With the limited changes that we made—the room now looks clean, bright and inviting. All it took was a little ingenuity!
