Summertime Reflections
“Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of Summer … Those days of soda and pretzels and beer …”
Yes it’s FINALLY here! Time to re-freshen, air out, sweep off the cobwebs and let the sun shine in! How can you make this happen? Easy! Reflection … with mirrors. Placed around your home strategically, mirrors can make a dull house look bright… a lifeless room come alive! Rectangular; traditional; square; are all fine and dandy – but now mirrors come is so many shapes and designs, they can transform the style of your décor in an instant.
I have to say I am a mirror-phobe … the less the better. Ignorance of what mother-nature (and kids) can do, is bliss. Come summertime however, the urge to sprint past my mirror dissipates a little. Perhaps it’s the slight tan that appears, mercifully covering flaws, that makes everyone look a bit healthier. So, in the spirit of summer, search out that window in your home that begs for reflection. Repeat the outdoors indoors, all over your home. Some really trendy designs can be found in this month’s issue of Real Simple. “Outside artsy” (interiorhomescapes.com) would be well suited in a family room. And who doesn’t have a dark corner needing a touch of chic with the help of the “starburst showstopper” (chiasso.com). Perk up your entryway (and lipstick) with the assistance of the “beveled classic” (potterybarn.com). Step up the cool factor in your daughter’s room by strategically placing the “dancing coral” (plantationdesign.com) over her dresser. I could go on.
One other very important aspect to adding mirrors … not only are you adding to your light surplus, you are also adding to your square footage – in a manner of speaking. It’s a known fact that rooms with mirrors are perceived to be larger. We all know it’s a sneaky way to play a trick on the eye, but hey, it looks good and adds style. Your eyes will forgive you, and your sub-conscious will be happy. Have a Happy Summer! Cheers!
