Welcome Back to reality! Summer is over and school has Begun!! I hear the joyous sighs of every parent who deposited their kids on the bus this morning, went back to their kitchens, actually sat down and finished their coffee in absolute peace. Then “it” sets in. Something’s not quite right. You need a focus. If there is no job beckoning you at the moment, and your gym membership long ago expired, you spotlight your attention on the closest thing to you. Not your kids, they (and their distractions) are blissfully on the bus… it’s your unsuspecting home (for the meantime anyway.) You think to yourself, “How did I go through the whole summer and never notice how much I hate my Living Room?” “Everything needs to change.” the decorator in you says repeatedly, while going through each room in your home.

Well, before you drive yourself crazy, have a seat in front of your computer and go to Homestyler.com. It’s the coolest website for “the homegrown decorator” within. Being creative, and having no outlet is difficult, especially when that creativity calls for moving around furniture. If you have the tendency to re-arrange rooms regularly, if your husband looks at you with fear and trepidation in his eyes because he knows that look that has taken over your face. It’s the one where you’re standing in the middle of a room pensively staring, not saying anything, just thinking. “Dear God, what is she going to do now,” he whispers anxiously. Next thing you know you are uncontrollably moving area rugs out from under two-ton sofas, switching out cocktail tables for stacked suitcases, artwork for mirrors etc. Well, this little gem of a website I discovered, thanks to this month’s issue of Real Simple magazine, will help diminish those troubling back spasms you experience right after those “black out” sessions, leaving your house in a state of total chaos.

Homestyler.com allows you to move your furniture around online for free. Well, it’s not actually your furniture, its cool virtual furniture. When I plug in my dimensions and start fiddling around with the possibilities of what my rooms could look like, I get a rush of adrenaline, and start going crazy with patterns and furniture groupings. I say better to do it this way first! As a stager (and homegrown decorator) for a number of years now, I absolutely have a permanent pain in my back from all the sliding, pushing and lifting. How I wish we had this website back in the day. Besides the fact that it’s easy to use, they have an option that allows you to visualize your finished product in 3D! Who knows this may lead you to explore other areas of change like … say … Paint Color? (Although, speaking as a stager, keep it neutral.)
