“White … is not a mere absence of colour; it is a shining and affirmative thing, as fierce as red, as definite as black…” ~ Gilbert Keith Chesterton

Well, here we are smack dab in the middle of the snowiest winter most of us can remember, and guess what? We can look forward to more white weather! Yea! Wait, what? You’re sick of it … Really? Well, join the club, but I’m trying to look at the glass half full. We have two more months of this stuff, and quite frankly, I’m going to embrace it! I’m going to buy white flowers, slipcover my occasional chairs in a white duck fabric and give my living room a little facelift. God knows it’s the only one I’ll ever be able to afford! Anyway, it goes without saying I’ll be scotch-guarding and keeping my kids, the dog, maybe even my husband OUT of this room, and I’ll enjoy it all by myself. My retreat.

Now think about how a bouquet of white hydrangea magically perk up a room. Add this along with a funky white throw rug, a couple of contemporary white shaded lamps, maybe a slipcover or two and bring that room into the 21st century. When your house is on the market, even in a dark room, white gives the impression of a “freshness” that will be appreciated by buyers looking for that extra bit of style, making you stand out from your competitors. Try a couple of off-white throw pillows on that couch, and see how you’ve given the room added light. Any variation of white works … combine them… they are all harmonious with each other and will appeal to almost any buyer. Just remember when you’re not showing your home this room is dedicated to you! Enjoy it while you can!

White is good for the soul – it’s cleansing, it’s pure, it’s the color of goodness … this is the reason I’m adding more of it to my life. After five days of the kids being home (2 of them caused by snow days!) my house and I need a little cleansing! Calgon take me away!
